Ever seen the Saw movies? Well, one guy (or girl?) did, and her (her?) based a flash movie around the concept of torturing a person - though in this case the device of choice is a music player that plays “Banana Phone”.

Over. And over. And over.

Granted, some parts of it aren’t amazing. The animation is kinda poor and a few moments fall flat. But there are some genuinely funny bits, and it’s worth a watch - just be prepared for some blood.

That makes it perfect fodder for the weirdest creators the internet has to offer. And this time they’ve worked up something even more random than the song by itself: “Banana Phone” with badgers.

The movie is a flash work, so be sure to update your software if you must. The video has a bunch of badgers dancing on a green field, and every now and then a Gundam (a giant robot) in a banana suit zooms by overhead. And, every now and then, you’re graced with lyrics from the song.

It’s just weird. Scared yet? You don’t know fear until you’ve actually watched it.

On the plus side Raffi’s voice is going a bit faster than usual. He sounds like a chipmunk.

When speaking of a music video you’ll usually add an ‘a’ on the front to create an AMV, or animated music video. These are videos that set music to cartoons, generally Japanese in origin, that weren’t originally meant for that music. Anime fans make these videos all the time, and quite often they do it to make fun of both the song and the show.

Ever heard of Dragon Ball Z before? If you’re a kid, probably. And if you’re an adult, yes, probably too. It’s been popular in Japan for close to two decades now and for close to a decade in North America. So it was only a matter of time before somebody attached this popular show to a popular song, the ever-evil “Banana Phone”.

Think again. There’s always ways to interpret this semi-obsessive, crazy song by Raffi. And, as with everything else online, there’s always a more adult way to interpret it.

Take this flash version, Banana Phone 2. It has the classic song, but it’s been turned into a mind-jarring phenomenon that turns men crazy when it starts to play in their heads. The result is a comedic masterpiece complete with cursing, blood and the usual violence in general.

Give it a watch. It’s actually pretty funny. Just be warned that there’s some swearing.

The ultimate children’s singer at work today, Canadian-born performer Raffi has played to several generations of children to date, beginning with his work in the 1970’s and stretching up to today, as he still actively performs (and releases his work via his own company). And there are few songs Raffi has written as popular as Banana Phone.

As with most Raffi songs, Banana Phone makes little sense. And why should it? It’s about a phone that’s also a banana. Few children will care that it makes no sense, and consequently will probably also love the songs numerous puns and portmanteaus.

Raffi. Love him or hate him, you have to admit he’s made quite an impact on children worldwide. What a guy.
